Figures

seated figure

I've had limited interaction with models, but I am beginning to understand the relationship that has persisted for centuries between artist and model. I have been lucky enough to settle, however briefly, in the same city where Frank Stack has retired, and hosts a figure drawing session once a week. I'm late to the game, but I plan on making the most of it from here on out.

  1. So, lemme get this straight--Frank Stack teaches you figure drawing?!?!?!? Holy Christ on a bicycle! DEFINITELY make the most of this opportunity! Have you ever read his Comics Journal interview?
And nice drawing, too--left leg especially looks spot-on.

  2. Well, he attends (and hosts?) weekend drawing sessions at the MU campus, so I show up when I can make it. However, I have been witness to him advising other artists, and boy did I pay attention then! I'll have to check out his TCJ interview, because my limited interaction with him has been pretty thought-provoking. Also, I finally responded to your comment on Repaneled. Thanks, alot!

  3. Ehy, I mean it sincerely! I think the TCJ interview is still in the archive...it's funny, I don't really like his style of drawing in the Pekar comics, it just doesn't "make it" for me, but you can tell that the guy has his fucking chops! Have you ever seen those Cheap Suit Serenader's sketches he did--they were in one of those big 12"x12" Comics Journal Specials--the "Music" one with the Jim Woodring cover? They were absolutely great. Guy's up there, definitely.
That Zorro story on Second Thoughts looks fucking great! TothTothToth, baybay! All the way! Ehy, if you're gonna learn, learn from the best, ehy?!?!
    Best wishes man!

  4. I haven't seen them, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a copy at my local library. Gnarly comic section, and I feel like I've seen that cover. Will do on both accounts. I appreciate that, man, it's been a labor of love and it's ready to fly. Cheers.
