Good ol' ever inspiring web-slinger, shown here in glorious Pentel color (black) brush. This marks the end of yet another sketchbook.
RIP dummy book. May you soon have a brother. Or, sister.

Denied
Sadly, my submission to the forthcoming issue of Smoke Signal was rejected. However, the good news is I get to see the table of contents before it comes to print, and I am stoked because the next ish is going to be chock full of good work and true grit. So, I'll just have to step it up for the next issue.

Trailer for the latest Ultraman epic to come out in December(in Japan, of course), titled "Ultraman Zero: The Movie Super Deciding Fight! The Belial Galactic Empire". Or something.

Vermont'd, part II
So, I mentioned in a previous post the beginning of my journey to Vermont to check out CCS. After many traveling issues and setbacks (I will not elaborate here, for this is an artblog, not a "Fuck! Delta send nude pics of me from the body scanner to all major media outlets and hence labeled my dong a terrorist" blog), I arrived an hour late to the portfolio day, and just in time for the tour.
WRJ is a quaint and personable little town, full of love for arts and comics. I was very impressed with the cooperation between school and city. The workspace seems quite endearing, and utterly focused on considering and developing a thirsty love for comics. Then they fed us pizza and we chitchatted. I even got to screen print for the first time while waiting for my portfolio review.
Jason Lutes was the dude lucky enough to look at my stuff, and he is a very personable and articulate man. The review was extremely neato, and he had some real insight as to what he thought I was doing well, and also areas I could stand some improvement. He seemed reasonable impressed with the level of my folio and my industry for coming all the way from Missouri to visit their school. Even though we were pressed for time, I came away glowing because he was the first intern at Fantagraphics and he dug that I'm into Alex Toth.
After that, I spent most of the afternoon checking out the local area with a fellow prospective student from Iowa named Will. We had a nice dinner(Will bought my meal, and I thanked him for taking me on such a nice man-date) and then watched the pilot episode from the 1970's live-action Supaidaman(Spider-man) TV show (which I maintain is at least equal to the US version starring Nicholas Hammond, although with way better special effects) and a sweet DIY animated film called "Sita Sings the Blues," all presented by none other than Steve Bissette, who is also a very friendly guy. Also, a fucking champ of the page.
Later on, drinks and unicorns were had and many a sweet chat about comics, and further travel conundrums. I would go on at least with total geek envy, but I have some veneer of pride to maintain, and I'm going to be late for work unless I hoof it.
Lastly, it sucked that I spent so much time in crappy hotels by myself, but at least I got caught up on "The Walking Dead."

Daily Drawing
In an attempt to facilitate more drawings from myself, I am going to try and enforce a daily drawing routine. I typically draw everyday in some manner, but it's not always structured, and days when I don't get out of bed til 1, I find myself just lounging around mostly. So, today is a double ass whopper.
The first one I actually did a few days ago while waiting at Manchester-Boston Airport in New Hampshire. Right after I drew this, I bought a mildly tasteless, and definitely overpriced ham sandwich and bit a huge hole in my tongue that plagues me still.
Second is an illustration of the man Alex Toth that I actually did today (notice the date is missing the day? clever girl...) and was experimenting with some of the hallmarks of his style, using more gestural lines to suggest shading rather than excessive hatching, and lots of negative space, which I will maintain he was an unequivocal master of utilizing.
Hopefully this will push me to spend at least 10-15 minutes of every day drawing with a goal in mind, but plenty of freedom to fuck up and have fun.
It's on like Mahjong.

Marathon'd
This is the cover image to a homemade Flash comic I crafted at the dinner table(and other places) for fun, and finished in time for Vermont, so I decided to throw it in with my app portfolio. Read the rest of it here.
Also, my friend Caitlin is a fan of the Flash. and running marathons. So, I asked if she would be interested in it, and she made my day by deeming it worthy of a post on her very cool radracerblog. Funny enough, I had the idea for this story several weeks ago, and almost immediately after, I discovered her blog and love for the Flash. Hopeful a fellow Flash fanatic would take enjoyment in my little graphic essay, I furiously set to work. Now I'm honored to be included in her blog, which I enjoy immensely, in no small part due the blog's slick design and Cait's smart writing.
Do yourself a favor and check it out.
Also, I'll be posting more of my portfolio and other comics on the flickr before long.

PS'd
I hope you all (as in, the you'ns who are capable) checked out Ben Chlapek's opening at the Ragtag tonight, but in case you couldn't go (like I couldn't), make it a responsibility to go by the gala and then check out his site. Funky chap makes some nice looking prints.

Vermont'd
I'll by taking off to Vermont for the CCS Portfolio Day in a few hours. Finished a couple goodies for the (fake) portfolio, and once I get back MO'side, I will be uploading. Until then, I wonder who will be lucky enough to review my stuff. Jason Lutes, perhaps?
Aside from that, looking forward to a change of scenery, and I hear Vermont is pretty rad. I'm about to put that to the test. Word!
